The housing stock
A railroad town that kept its old neighborhoods
Fullerton was founded in 1887 by George and Edward Amerige, brothers from Massachusetts who bought 430 acres where the railroad was coming through. It incorporated in 1904, and its older neighborhoods near downtown still have houses from the 1910s to the 1940s.
Further out, most houses are post-war, up to the hills in the north. The older ones call for care with original woodwork and plaster; the post-war ones are usually the straightforward kitchen and bathroom rebuild.

Permits and license
Who pulls the permit
- The city reviews it. A remodel in Fullerton that moves plumbing, electrical or a wall needs a building permit from the city. We say at the estimate if your job needs one, and we pull it.
- The license is ours to hold. New Horizon Repair Services holds California CSLB License #1151716, Class B General Building. You can look it up on the CSLB site before you sign anything, and you should.
- The scope is written before work starts. You get the estimate in writing, and work starts when you approve it.
