Work in the city

A pool we replastered in Fountain Valley

The pool was drained down to plaster that was stained, mottled and worn across the floor, the walls and the steps. The whole basin was coated in fresh white plaster and refilled. Nine photos, several from the same spot on the deck, so the before and after line up.

The full project

All nine photos, including the before and after slider from the deck, are on the project page.

The housing stock

A city of 1960s and 1970s homes, with the pools to match

Fountain Valley incorporated in 1957 and filled in fast: about 35% of its homes were built in the 1960s and another 43% in the 1970s, which puts the median year built around 1972. Over 80% of the housing predates 1980.

Pool plaster does not last fifty years, and neither does a kitchen. That is most of what we are called for here: the finishes on an otherwise solid single-family home reaching the end of their second or third decade. The job above is exactly that.

The jobs we take in Fountain Valley

Permits and license

Who pulls the permit

  • The city reviews it. Fountain Valley runs its own building counter, and a remodel that moves plumbing, electrical or a wall goes through it. We say at the estimate if your job needs one, and we pull it.
  • The license is ours to hold. New Horizon Repair Services holds California CSLB License #1151716, Class B General Building. You can look it up on the CSLB site before you sign anything, and you should.
  • The scope is written before work starts. You get the estimate in writing, and work starts when you approve it.
