Work in the city
A whole house remodeled in Corona
Every room, inside and out. Navy cabinets and white counters in the kitchen, three bathrooms rebuilt to the studs, new plank floors through the house, a repaint outside and a second-story wood deck in the back.

Before: the old kitchen, counters already pulled.
After: the primary bath, frameless glass shower and tiled tub deck.
After: the house repainted, with the new balcony.
All the photos, before, during and after, room by room, are on the project page.

The housing stock
The Circle City, and the tracts around it
Corona was laid out in 1887 inside a circle: Grand Boulevard runs 2.75 miles around the original town, which is where the name, Spanish for crown, comes from. It incorporated in 1896 and was once called the Lemon Capital of the World.
The city stayed largely agricultural until the 1980s. In the 1990s developers bought the groves and built tract after tract, so most Corona houses are now twenty-five to thirty-five years old, the age where kitchens, bathrooms and floors are due together. That is why a whole-house job makes sense here.

Permits and license
Who pulls the permit
- The city reviews it. A remodel in Corona that moves plumbing, electrical or a wall needs a building permit from the city. We say at the estimate if your job needs one, and we pull it.
- The license is ours to hold. New Horizon Repair Services holds California CSLB License #1151716, Class B General Building. You can look it up on the CSLB site before you sign anything, and you should.
- The scope is written before work starts. You get the estimate in writing, and work starts when you approve it.
